Allie #5

Allie #5
By: Emma Ladner

Chapter One
“Come on Allie!” said Dylan, spitting right onto a lady bug. “I’m not going into Dead man’s cave! You know the mayor forbids it!” I said. “Since when have you been a rule keeper?” asked Drake. “Ever since I turned sixteen.” I said. Sixteen years old, the age when you turn into a young lady. “Come on Allie, you’re being ricidolus!” said Sam. “I’m going to visit Cocaum.” I said. “After school? Dang it Allie!” said Ethan. “You guys can come along if you want to. But I’m going to go visit Cocaum.” I said. “So you can visit Cocaum, an Indian, but can’t go into a cave?” asked Drake. “Listen to me! All you guys can do is go there and hang out or come with me!” I said. When we entered the school a new lady stood there instead of Mrs. Dennis. “Where’s Mrs. Dennis?” asked Sam. We looked around and didn’t see her. “Don’t know.” I said. “Allie! Dylan! Drake! Sam! Ethan!” said Patty. We looked over at Patty. “Saved you guys some seats.” Said Patty. We climbed in the seat. I sat by Patty. “Did you hear the news?” asked Patty. “What?” I asked, putting my books away. “Chris and Sara broke up last Saturday!” said Patty. I choked. “What?” “Chris said he was in love with another lady!” Ethan nudged me. “It could be you…” he said in a saracastic voice. I elbowed him and looked at Patty. “Anyways I heard that in school he was talking about the girl.” Said Patty. “Said she isn’t a cheerleader.” Said Patty, laughing. “Ok now you’re telling lies.” I said. “Attention! Attention class!” said the teacher. There was tiny shuffle. “My name is Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Dennis died yesterday. So I have taken her place.” Said the teacher. “Now I want all of you to start telling me your names.” Said Mrs. Clark. When she came to me I stood up. “My name is Allie Johnson. I’m sixteen and I love hanging out.” I said. “Terrific Allie! I’ve heard you’re a tomboy too.” Said Mrs. Clark. I nodded. “It’s true.” I said. “Who are the specific boys?” asked Mrs. Clark. “They’re sitting beside me.” I said. “That’s Ethan, and Dylan. Huh, that’s Drake and that’s Sam.” I looked at Mrs. Clark. “Right, now things are going to be different this year.” Everybody looked around. “Girls on the right side of the room, boys on the left.” My heart dropped. Patty and I gathered our books and moved to the right side of the room. I sat by Patty and a group of girls. When I looked across of me I saw Chris Smith, my x-boyfriend. I smiled at him and he smiled back. “Ok class let’s start on the basics, take your boards out and take out your quills and ink.” Said Mrs. Clark. I lifted my desk top and took out my quill, ink bottle, and board and put it safely on my desk. “Ok for the elementary classes, work on Math problems from your math books.” Said Mrs. Clark. Every year you would get a math book and write down problems and answer them. This then became your math book. All the elementary kids took their things out and began working. “For Junior High classes,” said Mrs. Clark, walking to her desk. “Take out your English books and began working.” Said Mrs. Clark. English books were just like math books. “And High school classes,” Mrs. Clark was rummaging through her desk. “Take out your math and English books.” Said Mrs. Clark. When I had both my math and English book out I began my work. Two hours passed and Mrs. Clark then made us switch to English. Then when we finished Mrs. Clark announced it was lunch and I grabbed my lunch bag. “Man Mrs. Clark is so bossy.” Said Sam. “Since when did you start using the word bossy?” asked Dylan. Sam shrugged. “I heard that Sara and Chris broke up.” Said Drake. “Yeah.” I said, searching around for a place to sit. “Oh my god, look.” Said Ethan. I turned and saw Chris walking over towards us. I saw Patty and ran over to her. “Chris is trying to find me!” I said to her. “Um I’ll go get your friends and we can sit at the creek.” Said Patty, running over to my friends. I ran down to the creek by our school and sat under a tree. I soon saw Patty and my friends coming but they weren’t alone. Behind Patty came Chris. My heart stopped and I froze. I saw Chris jogging towards me. I opened my lunch and tried to ignore him but he sat right beside me. “Hey Allie.” He said. His voice was very deep since the last time I’d heard him. “Hello Chris.” I said, not even looking at him. “It’s been a long time since we hung out so I wanted to know if you wanted to go to Maple Hill tomommrow night.” He said. “Chris I’m trying to study tomommrow.” I said, taking out an apple and eating it. “Come on you’ve been studying too much!’ said Chris. “Well Chloe’s just trying to do what’s right for me.” I said. “What happened to the Allie who stood  up to the king?” asked Chris. “Chris just leave me alone.” I said. “Come on Allie.” Said Chris. “Leave her alone.” Said Patty. “Why? She won’t answer a simple question?” asked Chris. “Well how about she doesn’t have to?” asked Drake. “Yeah and what are you going to do about Bottom?” asked Chris. “Chris stop!” I said. “Shut up Allie! He’s said the right words for a pound in the mouth!” said Chris, raising his fist. When he came towards Drake’s face a hand stopped him and Chris found him face to face with Prince Peter. “Peter!” we all said. “Y-Your highness.” Said Chris. “Leave them alone.” Growled Prince Peter. “I’ll handle this.” I said, taking Chris’s hand I led him away behind the school house. “Chris you’ve just broken up with Sara. Don’t you think you should take a break?” I asked. “Come on Allie, just come with me.” Said Chris. “I’ll come.” I said. “Yes,” said Chris. “But you have to go sit with your friends. Not with me and my friends.” I said. “Ok deal.” Said Chris and he ran off over to his friends. “Hi Peter!” I said. “Hey.” Said Peter. “Dude you came just in time Drake’s face was about to be in parts!” said Dylan. “DUDE!” said Drake. Peter laughed and said, “I’m only here for today. My father has special bussnicess with the tailors.” Said Peter. “Peter!” yelled a voice. For after what had seemed twenty years, the King arrived in front of Allie. “Hm, what a surprise, seeing the little he-she here.” Said the king. “Father,” said Peter. “Saying what I’m saying.” Said the king, eying Allie. “Meet me in the town Peter, your mother still worrying about us.” Said the king and he walked away. “Sorry about my father. He’s kind of mad at you when you stood up to him in front of everybody. He’s not used to it.” Said Peter. I laughed. “You know Peter, you really should join our classes one day. Everybody adore you. Everybody thinks that if you are to fall with them. Nobody has a chance with you expect them.” I said. Peter laughed. “Well I got to go, plus it looks like your lunch time is over.” Said Peter. “Oh right.” I said. “Bye Peter.” Said my friends. I shoved two cookies in my mouth, swallowed them and went back to class. “Ok class, now please start on page 235 in your math book.” Said Mrs. Clark. There was a click and Allie looked across the room to see Chris playing around with a bobby pin under his desk.

Chapter Two
“You know something’s wrong with Chris. He just isn’t how he used to be.” Said Ethan. “Remember when we were younger and we played in the creek?” I asked. “Remember the Indian attack? One year before meeting Cocoum?” asked Dylan. “Cocoum!” I said. “Oh dang it now she’s going to go see Cocoum!” said Drake. “No look!” Cocoum was racing down the hill towards us. “Cocoum!” I started running towards him. We tumbled and sat up laughing. “Hello Allie, you could possibly not believe the time I’ve had with Kaya!” said Cocoum. “Who’s Kaya?” I asked. “Oh my girlfriend.” Said Cocoum. A beautiful girl came down and my friends stared. “Nobody’s friends with a girl like that Allie.” Said Ethan. I looked at the girl and she smiled at me. I smiled back and when they ran back up hill I stuck my tongue out at her.

“Allie, you know you’re jealous of her.” Said Dylan. “Jealous of that Kayak girl?” I asked. “It’s Kaya.” Said Sam. “Whatever, I just can’t believe that the chief kept us trapped there until I fell in love with Cocoum and now Cocoum has a girlfriend named Kayak!” I said. “Kaya!” said Ethan. “Oh you know what I mean! We stayed a month in there and were freed and now he has a girlfriend! Isn’t that charming?” I asked. “Perfectly not.” Said Drake. “And Kayak all pretty…” I said. “It’s Kaya!” said Ethan. “And it always will be Kayak!” I said. By then they had given up on saying Kaya.

The next afternoon I was dressed in a blue dress and black penny loafers. “Remember he can still crash the date!” laughed Stephen. When Chris arrived on his horse we rode off to Maple hill and sat down. “You know Allie, it’s been so long since we’ve talked.” Said Chris. “Chris, you’ve been so cruel to my friends.” I said. Chris shrugged. “Well everybody gets mad.” He said. “Not mad enough to call their friends bottoms.” I said. “Oh ok I guess I did go a little too far.” Said Chris. “A little? A little? And you mean to tell me that you think you went a little too far?” I asked, standing up. “Allie, ok I jacked up? Words spurted out of me just I wanted you so badly.” Said Chris. “Meaning you had worse things to say to them?” I asked. “No well… kind of its hard to explain but, I only want you in my life time.” Said Chris. “Meaning what?” The moon was coming up. “Well Allie, I don’t know!” said Chris, running his fingers through his hair. “But I do know that you’re the most beautiful thing to ever brace the blanket.” Said Chris. “Blanket?” I asked. “Planet. The most beautiful thing to brace the planet.” Said Chris. I giggled. “Chris just you’re so different now. The only Chris I remember is the Chris who was friends with Dylan Porter, Drake Fish, Sam Huston, and Ethan Nicholas. Not the boy who is the boyfriend of Sara Sticks.” I said. “Allie, that was the old me. Now I’m the friend of Dylan Porter, Drake Fish, Sam Huston and Ethan Nicholas. And wanting to be the boyfriend of Allie Johnson.” I looked at the moon it was full. “Allie, you are the light of my world.” Said Chris. I looked at him. “I still don’t really know yet Chris.” I said. “What happened to Allie Caroline Johnson who loved Chris Samson Smith?” asked Chris. I smiled. “Can’t you kiss me this once since we are alone?” asked Chris. I looked around and looked back at him. “I guess one kiss won’t hurt.” I said. For a few minutes we stood there, both shy not knowing what to say nor do. Then Chris leaned in to me. I closed my eyes and for the first time in years we kissed. After a few moments we pulled away. “Allie what do you say to be my girlfriend?” asked Chris. I looked Chris in his brownie eyes and said, “I guess Chris.” I said. “Hey, you won’t be disappointed believe me.” Said Chris. I nodded.

The next few days flew by. Chris barely talked to the girls. My friends kept staring at Chris and I kept my studying and fun to go on. One Friday, I was getting dressed for school when Chloe came in. “Allie, it’s time you know something.” Chloe sat beside me. “You are going to leave next year when you turn seventeen.” Said Chloe. “I thought the age was eighteen?” I asked. “They changed it.” Said Chloe. I looked shocked and Chloe kissed my head and left. I finished putting on my shoes then grabbed my books and went outside. “Hey Allie!” said Chris. Chris came up beside me. “Hi Chris.” I said. “Where’s my good morning kiss?” asked Chris. “Not today Chris.” I said and walked up to my friends. “Guys we’re leaving next year, first Patty, then Chris, then me…” I looked at my friends. “I’m going to miss you guys so much!” I said and I hugged them. And after releasing them I ran to catch up with Patty. “Are you sad about leaving two months before Chris?” I asked. “Yea.” Said Patty. “It’s been really good growing up in Smith Town.” Said Patty. “Where are you moving to?” I paused. “I think London.” I said. “London?” asked Patty. “Yes I’m going to become a tailor.” I said. “What happened to boy teacher?” asked Patty. “I’m just going to become a tailor.” I said. We walked into the school house. “What about Chris?” asked Patty. “We’ll have to wait until I’m twenty-one before we get married.” I said. “Ok.” Said Patty. We came to our desks and sat down. “What about the boys?” asked Patty. “I’m not sure, but they’re bound to come see me. If not me go see them. Anyways who are you dating now?” I asked. “William Griffin.” Said Patty. “He used to have a crush on me.” I said, opening my desk. “Yeah we are celebrating our fifth year anniversary tomommrow!” said Patty. “Good.” I said, looking at Chris. He had just walked in the school house and he had walked straight to Pete Samson, a guy who used to have a crush on me, and William Griffin. “What’s he saying to them?” asked Patty. “I have no idea.” I said. “Ok class, settle down!” said Mrs. Clark. Everybody took their seats. “Now this year is the second to last year here for the juniors.” Said Mrs. Clark. She began writing on the black board; Math and Science. Then she turned to us. “Who wants to do Math?” asked Mrs. Clark. I raised my hand along with Patty and Sara. “Who wants to do Science?” Everybody else’s hand went up with mine. “Who wants to do both?” asked Mrs. Clark. I raised my hand. Nobody raised their hand. “Miss Johnson,” said Mrs. Clark. “Yes Mrs. Clark?” I asked. “You like subjects don’t you?” I looked around. Everybody’s eyes on me. “Yes.” I replied. “Well maybe you can answer this times table problem?” asked Mrs. Clark. “What is 569 times 3?” asked Mrs. Clark. “1,647.” I answered. “Correct, very good. You can take out your book.” I began my questions. And I stopped what was going to happen to me next year? I sat there and I saw Mrs. Clark smile at me and I saw Chris smile at me and then I knew that Chris and I had always been the best couple.

Allie #4

Allie #4
By: Emma Ladner

Chapter One
“Ok Allie one more time get up!” yelled Steve. I was laying in my bed. For the past fourteen years I’ve been tortured by Steve. But then Chloe came along after my mother died. And so it was pretty much like having Mom back. “What do I need to do now?” I grumbled. “You need to come help me and your siblings out in the farm!” yelled Steve. I sat up and stretched. “Ok… Ok… take a chill.” I said. I yawned and then I got dressed.
Outside on the farm it was chilly. Winter had come just a few weeks ago and already snow surrounded the farm. I walked outside and fed the animals. Then I fed the chickens. My siblings went inside after doing their chores and washed up. But not me. I went to a tree. A giant oak tree I’d grown up with throughout my childhood. The leaves were gone and the tree was covered in snow. The creek was frozen and if you touched the ledge you would stick. I remembered when my mom was alive and then I walked back home to forget my thoughts. Steve was sitting down trying to finish some work. He had lost some weight. Chloe, as always, was cooking. I sat down and ate my breakfast and looked up at Chloe. She was standing right where I had left her last night. I went into my room and got dressed for school. I put on gloves, a coat, and boots and then I took my school books and went outside. At the school Mrs. Dennis had lit a fire. Everybody was sitting down. The younger kids sat to the very left. The elementary school children sat to the younger kids’ right, junior high sat to elementary right, and us, the high school kids, sat on the very right. “Good morning Class.” Said Mrs. Dennis. “Good morning Mrs. Dennis.” We said. “Okay high school children,” we looked up. “You are working on Math today.” Dylan raised his hand. “Algebra?” asked Dylan. “I’M TEACHING!” Dylan lowered his hand. “Now, complete pages five, six and eight.” Said Mrs. Dennis. “What about-“ I asked but she cut me in. “No more talking!” I lowered my hand. “Now, everybody complete those.” We took out our books and began working. “What do you think Mrs. Dennis is so mad about?” asked Dylan. “I heard that her boyfriend broke up with her yesterday.” Said Patty. “Man that man has ruined our lives.” Said Sam. “No talking!” said Mrs. Dennis. “Do you think Chris still likes you?” whispered Drake. I looked over at Chris who was working furiously. “Nope.” “I still hear talking!” hollered Mrs. Dennis. “Do you believe that Chris and Sara are dating?” asked Patty. “What?” I whispered, turning around. “That Sara and Chris are dating. Everybody’s been talking about it.” Said Patty. I looked over at Chris and Sara Simpson. Sara was smiling and twirling one of her curls. Chris was looking at her. They were both smiling. “Yeah.” I said. “Miss Allie Johnson,” said Mrs. Dennis. I looked beside me. Mrs. Dennis was standing beside me. “Yes?” I asked. “Detention after class.” Said Mrs. Dennis. “But Mrs. Dennis-“ I said. “No stuttering, I don’t want to hear it.” Said Mrs. Dennis. “Yes Mrs. Dennis.” I said. When Mrs. Dennis returned to her desk. I did all my papers and waited for the lunch bell.

When the lunch bell rang I went to the side of the class room and grabbed my sack lunch and everybody went outside. I sat on the ground with my friends. “Dang it, my mom packed me broccoli.” Said Sam. “I thought broccoli was your favorite.” I said, pulling out two large chocactle chip cookies. “Yeah, they were. But my mom made them so much that now I’m sick of them.” Said Sam. “Tell your mom.” Said Dylan, taking out a pickle. “I have but- what is that?” asked Sam. Drake had pulled out some food. “What?” asked Drake. “That, it smells horrible.” Said Dylan. “Oh, this lasagna.” Said Drake. “I don’t think that’s lasagna.” Said Sam. Patty sat beside me. “Hey look at Chris and Sara. They’ve both been shot by Cupid’s arrow.” Said Patty. I looked over and under a tree Sara put a cookie inside Chris’s mouth. “That’s disgusting.” I said. “Hey Patty over here!” hollered a girl. “Want to come sit with us?” asked Patty. “Nah, I’ll stay here.” I said. “Okay.” Patty went over to the girl. “That actually tastes good.” Said Dylan. “Ugh! You ate that? It smells like skunk.” I said. “What? Try some!” said Sam. I took some and closed my eyes.

“See you tomommrow kids!” said Mrs. Dennis. “Bye Allie.” Said my friends. I walked up. “Sweep up the floor Miss Johnson.” Said Mrs. Dennis. I grabbed the broom and swept it outside. Then Mrs. Dennis had me bang erasers. Then she made me study and then I went home. At home Chloe nor Steve was home. “Steve will be pretty mad that you got detention.” Said Stephen. “You didn’t see anything!” I snapped. I put on my hat and then I went outside into the snow. I went into the barn and put a blanket, saddle, and reins onto my horse; Snowbell. I had gotten Snowbell last Christmas. I climbed on and rode into town. In the center of town Chris and Sara were talking. “Hi Chris.” I said. Chris looked up. “Oh hi Allie.” He said. I rode away to Chloe’s store. She was just giving a hat to a mother when she spotted me. “Hello Allie!” she said. She looked at the mother and said, “Excuse me.” She went over to me. “Hey Chloe, I got detention today.” I said. “Allie, you know our rules.” Said Chloe. “I’m not with anybody Chloe!” I said. “Okay, okay. Now excuse me Allie I got to go.” She ran back over to the mother. I rode back into the center of town, saw Chris and Sara walking over to Snowbell and I and rode off.
Chapter Two
“So they were… feeding each other?” asked Dylan. My friends were over and staying the night. “Yeah, pretty much.” I took some hot chocactle. “That’s disgusting you know that?” asked Sam. “No Sam I thought it was sweet.” I said. My friends laughed. “Anyways Patty thinks Chris still likes me.” I said. “Maybe he’s dating her to make you jealous.” Said Drake. “Feeding each other? Dude that must be deep.” Said Sam. “I don’t really think Chris likes me now.” I said. I looked around. I felt somebody watching us. “Do you think that Chris is in love with you both?” asked Dylan. He took off his shirt and now he only had on his shorts. “I don’t know,” I looked around again. “But don’t call me crazy but I feel that somebody’s watching us.” We looked around the room for a second and then Stephen came out. “Chris and Allie sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First came love then came marriage then came,” I yelled, “Shut up!” Stephen began walking and went back to his room. I got up. “I’m going to change.” I walked into my bedroom and dressed into a nightgown. Then I walked downstairs. Dylan was wrestling Sam and Drake and Ethan were arm wrestling. “You guys are jacked.” I said. I laughed and sat down. And that’s when I saw it. Right in the window were a pair of eyes watching us.

I jumped up screaming. Chloe and Steve were out late so they didn’t come. “What?” asked Dylan. “Somebody’s watching us!” I said. I ran over to the door and swung it open. “Allie, where are you going? You have no shoes on!” hollered Sam. “To find out who was watching us!” I yelled. I ran and saw a figure running past the creek. I began running and I heard my friends coming after me. I followed the figure into the woods, pushing by trees. At some times the tree leaves would smack me leaving me with burns. I began hopping over roots. The figure kept running as if it knew every single tree, rock, and root. I finally followed it and came into a light. And then it happened as quick as light; I came to a campfire and felt somebody smack me with something like a rock in the back of my head. And then it went black.

When I woke up I was inside a tent, tied up with ropes. I opened my eyes and looked around. “What?” I saw the tent flap and squirmed out of the flap. Outside was a burned out camp fire. There was snow but there was only dirt around the fire. I squirmed out and saw up. Then out of another tent crawled out Ethan and Dylan. “Awl!’ I cocked my head and they put their face on the ground and dragged it. When they sat up again their was no rope on their faces. I did the same and sat up. “Allie! You’re alright!” said Dylan and Ethan. “Yeah but my head hurts.” I said. I tried rubbing the back of my head but my hands were tied. “Yeah we saw them throw a stone in the back of your head.” Said Dylan. “Who’s them?” I asked. “The Savages.” Whispered Ethan. “The Indians?” I asked. They nodded. “Wow, all of our child hood this was our dream to become captured by Indians and become native princes and princess!” I said. “ALLIE!” said Dylan. “What?” I asked. “That was when we were five.” Said Ethan. “So?” I asked. “Now, we know that Indians will kill us. Fry us into bits!” said Dylan. I nodded. “Wait where’s Drake and Sam?” I asked. “Hey!” Drake and Sam came out of a tent. “Hey!” we said. “Hey!” they said. There were footsteps. “Shush somebody is coming!” I said. We all squirmed the ropes back on our mouths. A man came in. I realized it was the chief. He spoke some language. But  at first I thought we would never understand again. But when he looked me in the eyes and began talking I could understand him. He said, “So you white humans followed my son?” I nodded. He smiled. “Pale one, what is your name?” he asked. In his language I said, “Allie.” He nodded. “Odd name you pale ones have.” I smiled. “Sir do you think you can free us?” I asked. My friends looked at me like I was crazy. “No.” said the chief. “Unless you fall in love with my son.” He said. “You cannot force me to love somebody. I have to fall in love with him.” I said. “Until you two fall in love you and your friends shall not leave. My son embraced your beauty when you lay. He also saved your life.” He said. “He thinks your wonderful. A real beauty.” I blushed. “Show him to me.” I said. “I shall return with my son and you and your pale faces meals.” Said the chief. And he left. “What the HECK were you saying?” asked Dylan. “I have to fall in love with his son. Until then,” I looked at all my friends. “We aren’t leaving.”

A few hours after the chief left his son returned with meals. He looked handsome. Like some man I’d never seen before. He was cuter then Chris. He had tan skin and he had black hair. He had a hawk feather in his hair and he wore only a deer skin around his lower. “Hello young Allie.” He said, removing my rope from my mouth. He slid my friends their meals and he had some friends come in and untie my friends hands. Then they blocked the exits. The boy removed the rope from  my hands. I ate all my meal. “Yum.” I said, gulping it down with a drink. “What is this drink?” I asked him. “Grape juice.” He said. “What is your name?” I asked. “Cocoum.” Said the boy. “Nice to meet you Cocoum.” I said, bowing my head. He smiled and nodded. “I’ll be back.” When he left his friends stayed guard. “What did he say Allie?” whispered Drake. “These guys creep me out.” Said Sam. “Shut up!” said Dylan. Ethan looked at me. “He said he’ll be back.” I said. I looked at where he had left and waited.

When Cocaum returned he brought deer clothes and handed them to me. “I’m good.” I said. “Ok then,” he said. He handed deer skins to Dylan, Ethan, Sam, and Drake. My friends looked at me. “Go put them on.” I said to them. Dylan, Ethan, Sam, and Drake disasppeared into the tents and Cocaum pulled me up. I looked at him and smiled. “Everything my people know about you is wrong.” I said. He smiled. “Yes.” He said. He untied me the rest of the way and when my friends came out he untied their legs and pushed his friends aside. “We want to stay.” Said Ethan. Cocaum smiled and looked at me. I nodded. Cocaum took me and led me around. He showed me the creek where little kids were playing. And he said that since I was so nice he would let me keep a horse. The horse then reminded me of Snowbell. Cocaum apparently read my mind and said, “We will return to get your horse.” He took his horse out and put a blanket it on it. Then he helped me on. Then he climbed on and said, “Ya!” and the horse began running. Slowly we came to the barn and we slid in. Careful not to disturb anything we grabbed Snowbell. When I was on Snowbell I whacked her and she ran and jumped over a fence. “What was that?” I heard a shriek inside the house. “Run Snowbell!” I said. Snowbell began running and Cocaum followed me on his horse. When we returned to the camp my legs were sore. “Here,” said Cocaum, handing me a blanket. I swung it over and got on. “Perfect.” I said. Then I led Snowbell over to a river and let her drink. While she drank I stroked her mane and put my arm around her. As Snowbell drank and I watched the children play Cocaum came up behind me and asked me a question, “Allie do you love me?” I looked at him and shook my head, “Not yet Cocaum, not yet.” I said. Cocaum smiled and then walked away. I looked at Snowbell and patted her back. “Don’t worry Bell it’s good here.” I said. Snowbell snorted and when she was done I led her into a fence of where the other horses were. I went onto the fence and sat there, watching the horse. “Eh don’t sit there!” said a man. I turned around and felt myself being pushed. I turned and saw a mad horse pushing at me. I screamed and all the Indians stopped what they were doing. The horse bit my leg and I felt sheer pain and screamed. I began crying. The horse finally managed to push me all the way off and when I fell Cocaum got me. I still felt the pain and looked at my leg. From my blurry eyes it looked like a huge pile of apples. I screamed and Indians came. The Indians put something on my leg that made my leg sting. I felt something wrap around my bite I looked down and saw Elephant ears. It felt like the longest day  of my life. I couldn’t walk I could only ride on Snowbell. And when Snowbell took a break I sat by the brook watching older men catch fish. Finally after five weeks the cut sealed itself together and they took off my bandage. “Can I walk yet?” I asked. Cocaum was sharping a spear. “No,” he said. “Oh well…” I climbed into my tent which was now filled of deer skins. There was some bandages and a shell that I found in the brook. I laid down the deer skins and made them into a pallet. When Cocaum came in I was sitting writing a letter for Steve and Chloe. “What are you writing?” asked Cocaum. “Something,” I said, adding Love, Allie. Then I blew on the shell and Snowbell soon appeared at my tent. Getting onto Snowbell I rode her to town and dropped the letter off at the gate then galloped back. When I was in the woods Chloe came out and picked up the letter. “STEVE! STEVE IT’S FROM ALLIE!” yelled Chloe. She ran inside. “Are you yet in love with Cocaum?” asked the chief. I looked at the chief. I looked at the chief and stared at him. Then I shook my head.

Chapter Three
When Winter left and all the snow melted Spring flew in like a hawk. The plants in the fields soon sprouted and the Indians began to pick them. The chief began telling the women to make things like pottery and stuff like that. It was soon that I realized that it had been a season so I asked Cocaum something. “Can I walk now?” Cocaum nodded and I stood up and ran down to the fields, swooping up a basket and ran to the carrot farm. We picked the carrots for hours then placed them in front of the chief then when the chief gave us all ‘ok’ we dumped them into a pile and went into the grape fields. When we picked grapes we moved onto black berries, raspberries, and blue berries. When those were all picked we began with pottery. I decided to make a pot. The pot was then baked in the sun. Soon when everybody had harvested, caught, and did something we began a feast. The boys dug in, realizing I needed no manners here I shoved food into my face. Men spit out their food from laughter. GROSS! And across from me sat Cocaum. I smiled at him and he mouthed ‘Do you love me?’ I smiled and this time for the first time nodded.

In the middle of Spring I began making pottery. That was pretty much one of my things to do. One day Cocaum came to our camp and told us some sad news. “You have to leave now.” he said. “What?!” we asked. “Leave? But why?” asked Sam. “Because Allie loves me now.” said Cocaum. “Uh,” Drake had a look on his face. “No she doesn’t….” said Dylan. “Of course she does she said so herself. You guys are allowed to visit just not live here.” Said Cocaum. So the next morning we packed our stuff and left. I grabbed Snowbell and hugged Cocaum then left. I whacked Snowbell and left the forest and went home. When I had Snowbell in the barn I walked into our house. “Oh Allie tell us about the savages!” said Stephen. “They’re not savages.” I snapped. And went upstairs. I sat on my bed  and looked around. All I saw was my old tent. I felt tears and began crying. I’d lost everything in the world; a new home, my parents, and friends that were girls. I began crying. I’d lost my true love, Chris, and the prince. I slowly soon cried myself to sleep. But did not ever forget Cocaum. For he grew up in my heart and he never left.

Allie #3

Allie #3
By: Emma Ladner

Chapter One
Steve came home from work. Steve was my step-father. The last two years have been sorrow and not. The year before last year my mother died and last year… well, Steve married Chloe. Sudden, yes I know. But Chloe is the nicest mother. She is like a clone of my mother. When Steve is mean she scolds him and Steve doesn’t have the strength to divorce with her.

“Allie dear, can you go get the clothes off the line?” asked Chloe, who now we call Mom. “Sure.” I walked outside and removed the clothes. I’m now twelve. An awesome twelve year old. I took the basket and brought it to Chloe. “Thank you.” Said Chloe. “The mayor’s upgrading everybody’s job.” Said Steve. “That’s good news.” Said Chloe. I shook my head. “Probably Chris’s idea.” I said. Chris, the mayor’s son. “Allie,” said Chloe. I shrugged and said, “Most likely. That boy is crazy.” I said. I took my boots and began heaving them on. “It seems like just yesterday Mary left on her own with that… strong fine looking man.” Said Chloe. Mary had reached the limit to be let go and she ran off with her fiancĂ©’. I stood up and grabbed my cowboy hat. “You know it’s awfully nice of Steve to buy that for you.” Said Chloe. I looked at Steve and then at Chloe. “Nah,” I said and walked outside. Outside everybody was busy talking and decorating. Soon the king would be coming to town and they wanted everything to look nice. As far as I know, everybody thinks our house is the cleanest. By 7:00 our beds are made. The yard has barely any poop because we find some, dig a hole with a shovel, pick the poop up with the shovel and bury it in the ground. Our floors are shiny and there is a basket beside the door for when we come in that’s where we place our shoes. Then there is a coat and hat rack, made specially by Steve. Our kitchen is clean and our laundry is on the clothes line every day by 2:00 in the afternoon. Our rooms are always clean and Steve is saving enough money to add to our tiny little house. Steve’s shed is always clean and whenever one flower dies Chloe replaces it with a new flower. There is a little stone lane leading from our porch which Steve had built last year. Chloe had knitted, embroider, and sewed to make the little porch perfect. She had green and blue pillows on the swing and red on the little rocking chairs. There was a little wooden table which Chloe had put a green table cloth on too. The crops haven’t died at least once this year. We had a little carriage and two pulling horses. We kept the horses in the barn which was perfectly organized. The hay was in the bins and in the attic of the barn. There was a bucket and a popper, which water came out of from the ground. There was the chicken coop where the chicken feed was outside. The little nests were small and the chickens had no problem with wolves. See last year a wolf came along and ate on of Steve’s prized pigs so Steve had made a fence only people my age and above can go over. And the year my mother died in December Steve made us paint the fences white. Then shovel the snow out of the way. The ponds were frozen and every day Steve had gone down there to get fish. Yeah, a lot of things have changed since Mom died. A lot of things.

I walked over to the creek where my friends were; Ethan, Dylan, Drake, and Sam. “Hey guys!” I hollered. They looked at me and then jumped into the creek. I jogged over to the giant oak tree and removed my cowboy hat and boots. “Allie, where have you been?” asked Ethan. I grabbed onto one of the stones on the ledge. “Chores again.” I said. I pulled myself on the ledge. “You’re always doing chores.” Said Dylan. “Mostly because of Steve.” I said. “What about school?” asked Drake. “Done for, I can’t believe it’s already summer time!” I said. “Yeah next year the teachers will wish they never met me.” Said Sam. “Yeah?” we asked. “Yeah!” said Sam. I grabbed onto the rope and then jumped off and landed splash in the creek. When I came up I saw Chris Smith, my X boyfriend, on his horse watching us. I climbed out of the water, watching him. I climbed up on the ledge, climbed onto the rope and swung for a little watching him. Then I came back to the ledge, walked back, then ran and did a front flip off and then landed in a dive. When I came up Chris was leading his horse to the oak tree. I couldn’t help. “What do you want Chris?” I’m such a dork. “Nothing, just watching you guys.” Said Chris. “If you think we are going out again you can forget it!” I said. “Never know Allie Johnson… never know.” Said Chris. I jumped off the ledge again. When I came out it was sprinkling. “Think ya’ll should go in.” said Chris, coming under the oak tree. We all got out and went under the oak tree. I was shivering and apparently Chris was prepared for that. He took a towel out of his pack and wrapped it around me. I shuffled then wrapped myself deep into its warmth. “It’s been raining every day so far.” Said Dylan, picking up a stone and throwing it. There was a flash of lightning and it began raining hard. Then the thunder came and it began pouring so much you couldn’t see. “Bet you weren’t prepared for this now?” Drake asked Chris. “Yeah I wasn’t.” said Chris, sticking his head out in the rain. When he pulled it back in his hair was soaking wet. I laughed. He shook his hair making rain go everywhere. I pulled my feet in and saw something in the distant. I stood up and stared at it. When my eyes got used to the rain I saw it was a little, tiny kitten! “Guys a kitten!” I said. “That’s one of the cats from the king’s kingdom. Most likely from one of the richest people.” Said Chris. I ran out in the rain, without my towel on, ran swept up the cat and brought it under the tree. I wrapped myself in the towel and dried off the kitten. “Aww… it’s a calico.” I said. The kitten stared up at me. It waved one of its paws at me and I giggled. “It’s so cute.” I said. “That ‘it’ is a ‘she’.” Said Sam. “Sam!” I said. “What?” asked Sam. I looked back down at the kitten. It was now curled in a little ball. “I wonder where her mama is.” I said. “Probably back in the kingdom. Looks like this little girl ran off.” Said Dylan. The kitten yawned and licked its back. I slowly drifted off to sleep.

“Allie! Allie… ALLIE!” I opened my eyes and I found myself staring at Chris’s feet. “Ugh.” I said, sitting up. The kitten was sitting in my lap. It had stopped raining too. “We better get to our houses.” Said Drake, looking at the clouds. “It looks like another downpour is coming.” I picked up the kitten in the towel and looked at Chris. “Um… thank you for the towel Chris.” I said, putting my hand on the towel. “No, just keep it.” Said Chris. “Thanks.” I said. I put the kitten down and put my boots and hat on. Then I picked up the kitten who was now awake and brought it home with me. Chloe was sitting on her bed, sewing. “Oh a kitten!” said Chloe. I looked at the kitten. “Yeah. It’s a she.” I said. “Oh I’ve been waiting for this moment!” said Chloe. She reached under her bed and pulled out a little rocking crib. “Here you go.” She said. I took the crib and climbed the ladder with the kitten in the crib. When I entered my room everybody was talking. Some were drawing, some were writing, and others were reading. I brought it over to my bed, which was now only mine and placed the crib down. I took my old baby blanket and put it into the crib. Then I took the towel away from the kitten and laid the kitten down. “What do you have there?” asked Stephen. “Nothing, just a kitten.” I said, folding the towel. “Kitten eh?” asked Stephen. “I wish I had a collie.” Said James. I put the towel on the end of my bed and took I took off my boots and my hat and put them in my chest. Then I laid down. “Allie, can you tell us what you named the kitten?” asked Jennifer. I yawned, “Kitty.”

When I woke up everybody was asleep. It wasn’t myself that had woken me up. Something from outside had. I opened my windows and looked outside. On Maple hill was a wolf howling at the moon. I sighed and laid in bed. Then I stared out at the wolf and slowly drifted into a sleep.

Chapter Two
“Allie check it out! It’s the King!” said Dylan. I looked from the oak and saw the King’s carriage. “We’re probably the first to see it. Come on let’s go to town square!” said Sam. We climbed out of the tree and began running towards town square. When we were still the carriage rolled in and everybody gathered around. The king stepped out. He looked at everybody then said, “Hello my royal subjects.” “Hello your highness.” We all said. He turned his attention to me. “Young girl, state your name and age.” I shuffled and looked around. Everybody’s attention was on me. I looked at the king. “Your highness, my name is Allie Caroline Johnson. I’m twelve years old.” I said. “And what are you wearing?” asked the king. I looked at my clothes; cowboy boots, cowboy hat, my dad’s old t-shirt and shorts. “My dad’s shirt and my shorts your highness.” I said. “That is not the right thing for a girl of your age to wear.” Said the king. “But sir, this is what I’ve been wearing for quite some time. I don’t believe I’ve heard anybody speak about my clothing.” I said. I looked around. Nobody looked guilty. “And who are you here with?” asked the king. “My friends; this is Dylan, that’s Sam, That’s Drake, and that’s Ethan.” I said. “Do you have any friends that are girls?” I looked around and saw girls I knew shuffle back. I looked at the king. “No your highness, I’ve never been good with making friends with girls.” I said. “And what do you do mostly?” asked the king. “I jump in the creek off a ledge, I climb trees, I fish, pretend to be an Indian or wolf, and I pretty much do a lot of farm work.” I said. “Are you man or woman? Because I didn’t hear any sewing, knitting, or embroidery. “Um… I’m a woman. But I don’t do womanly things.” I said. “You are supposed to do womanly things who is your mother?” asked the king. I looked down at my feet. “My mother died two years ago.” I said. “Where’s your father?” asked the king. “Buried on Maple Hill.” I answered.  “You live alone on the streets as an orphan?” asked the king. “No! I live in a house with my step-father Steve and my step-mother, Chloe.” I said. “Chloe and Steve Johnson raise your hand.” Said the king. Deep in the crowd two hands raised. “Come forth!” hollered the king. Chloe and Steve stepped out. “Chloe,” said the king. “You are to teach your daughter to sew, embroider, and knit.” “Yes your highness.” Said Chloe. “Steve,” Steve bowed. “Your highness.” He answered. “You are to make sure your daughter does not do all this… farm work.” Said the king. “Yes sir.” Said Steve. “And Allie,” I looked at the king. “You are not to hang out with the boys ever again.”

My eyes widened. “Not hang out with Dylan, Sam, Ethan, and Drake?” I asked. “Yes D, S, E, and D!” said the king. “But these are my only friends.” I said. “You are a lady not a man. You are to make friends with girls. Now, I will return next week on Friday to check on you.” Said the king. I nodded. “Yes your highness.” I said. The king got back in his carriage and rode away. I hugged my friends. “Thanks for being best friends with me.” I cried. “Well we will see you before you leave.” Said Dylan. “Yeah.” Said Drake. “We’ll see you at school.” Said Sam. “And we’ll talk to you.” Said Ethan. We all hugged. Then Steve pulled me away. “Stay away from my daughter boys.” Said Steve. Chloe took my arm and led me away. When I went inside Chloe made me sit. She began teaching me embroidery, knitting, and sewing. But I could only think of what the king had said.
The lessons went on and on. I didn’t have any friends that were girls by the next Thursday. The next day would be Friday. I was very nervous. “Ok Allie, try on this white dress.” Said Chloe. I put on the dress and she looked at me. “Perfect… now go to bed. I don’t want any bags under your eyes.” Said Chloe. I climbed into bed and closed my eyes. What would the King say tomommrow? Was he going to take me away? I miss my friends… And I fell asleep.

The next day I dressed in a white dress and put my hair in a bun. Then I put on white heels and Chloe looked at me. “I was a princess.” Said Chloe. “A princess?” I asked. “Of Italy, and now I put my crown upon your head.” She took a beautiful crown and placed it on my head. And then she led me outside. The king’s carriage was coming. The men rolled out a red rug and a crowd swarmed. I hid behind the crowd. The King’s carriage stepped out and the knights came out. Then the King shuffled and said, “Miss Allie Caroline Johnson. Emerge.” Said the king. I walked out onto the red carpet and curtsied in front of the king. He walked around me. “Good good… now you must pick some girls to replace your friends.” He said. Four girls stepped out. “NO!” I said. Everybody gasped. “You can make me act lady like but you CAN NOT REPLACE MY FRIENDS! I’m sorry King Jacob. But I wish to stay friends with who you should call; Sir Sam, Sir Dylan, Sir Drake, and Sir Ethan.” I said. All my friends stepped out wearing fake crowns made by Chloe’s friend. We had met him in town and his wife had made suits for them while he made crowns. “These are my friends.” I said. “Fine then, Allie Caroline Johnson you have a very low chance of getting married.” Said the king. “I don’t care.” I said. “Good day your highness.” I said. I curtsied and began walking away. Everybody watched me walk away. “Allie Caroline Johnson!” said Chloe. My friends took their crowns off. “What was that?” asked Chloe. “I stood against the king Chloe? Aren’t you proud of me?” I asked. “No I can be put to sudden death now!” said Chloe.

Chapter Three
“Allie!” said Stephen. “Where’s Chloe?” asked Steve. “Talking with the king.” I said. Steve shoved on his boots, grabbed his cowboy hat and soon I heard the neigh of a horse and a horse gallop away. I walked outside and saw Steve on a horse going towards the king. “Allie… what happened?” asked Steve. I pulled my hair down and took off the tiara. Then I went upstairs and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt. Then I put on my boots and walked outside. I got onto one of the mayors and rode away to the creek. Then I sat down on the ledge and began staring down at the water. Then I began crying. “What have I done?” I whispered. “Hello.” Said a voice. I looked up. Across the creek stood a boy. But I didn’t know him. I stood up. “Don’t worry! I come in peace!” said the boy. He climbed onto the ledge. “What’s your name?” he asked. “My name is Allie.” I said, stepping out. “My name is Prince Peter.” Said the boy, bowing. “Well then, if you’re expecting me to come with you then no.” I said. I began climbing the tree. “Please, I don’t want that! Just the savages they are attacking!” said Prince Peter. I dropped out of the tree and landed on my legs. “Dang…” said Prince Peter. He grabbed a vine and swung over to me. “Come on, we must leave!” said Prince Peter, grabbing onto his stallion. I climbed onto my mayor and looked towards town. I shook my head and looked at his horse. I grabbed his sword and ran off towards town. “Allie! Wait!” said Prince Peter. I ran into town and saw the Indians. They were fighting. I saw little kids and sighed. Then I pulled the kids onto my horse and rode to Prince Peter. “Take these kids to the river in the woods!” I said. Then I ran back into town. I knew what the Indians were after. And I had to save it. I looked around and spotted Chloe; their target. I heard yelling and turned around and pointed my sword at the Indian. The Indian ran off and I grabbed Chloe. Then I rode to the river and when I got there the kids were there sitting there. “Don’t worry…” I said. I took the blankets off my horse. They had been used to keep rain out of the way. But they had been hung to dry. Then I laid them out on the ground. Then I laid another. Chloe took off her apron and put it on top. Prince Peter took off his cloak and laid it on the apron. “Come on and lay down.” I said. The little kids went onto the blankets. “According to the clouds it’s going to rain tonight.” Said Prince Peter. “Thank you Captain Obvious.” I said. I ran out into the woods on my mayor and found thick sticks. Then I found a couple of Elephant ears. Then I rode back. “I’ll be back.” I said, dropping the stuff off. “Allie where are you going?” asked Chloe. I ran back to the house. Steve had pretty much taken everybody there and brought them away. I ran and grapped Chloe’s sewing things. I also grabbed a pot and some fire wood and rode back to the woods. I made sure nobody saw me and then I came back to the blankets. Chloe was telling the children a story. I sat down and began sewing the Elephant ears together. Then I put the sticks in the ground and put the Elephants ears on. Then I took a big stick and put it in the ground then I took another Elephant ear and sewed it onto the back. “I can start the fire.” Said Prince Peter, grabbing the twigs. Then he took the logs and began rubbing them together. I went into the woods and I stole some stuff from the Indian camp. Then quickly I rode back. Then when the little kids were talking Chloe came over and made dinner. I tied the mayor and stallion up to a tree and the little kids ate supper with their hands.
When the little kids and Chloe were asleep, Prince Peter and I sat at the fire, poking at it. “You’re lucky.” Said Prince Peter. I looked at him. “How?” I asked. Prince Peter sat back. “You’re father doesn’t force you to become somebody you’re not.” Said Prince Peter. I looked down at the ground. “My father died.” I said. Prince Peter looked at me. “Well you’re lucky to have a mother then.” “My mother also died.” I looked at the fire. Prince Peter was silent. “Well I’m sorry.” I nodded. “No need to be sorry… I just… I guess I’m not lucky.” I said, looking down. “Allie you see me way different then all the other girls I’ve ever met.” Said Prince Peter. I laughed. “I can see that happening.” I said. We laughed. Then we were silent. And we looked each other in the eyes. And as soon as I saw his brown eyes my heart was linked into my love life again.
Chapter Four
Whenever I woke up Prince Peter was sleeping beside me. I looked at the fire. It had burnt out. I looked at the children. They were there. Chloe was off somewhere. Most likely finding some breakfast. I sat up and stretched. “Peter.” I shook Prince Peter awake. He sat up. “What?” he asked. Ohh…. Kiss him… kiss him good….. “How’d you sleep?” Prince Peter stretched. “Fine thanks.” Hug him… hug him… “Do you know where Chloe is?” Prince Peter looked around. “Nope.” Kiss… hug… kiss… hug… “I’m going to town.” “I’m coming with you.” Said Prince Peter. Say Ok… Say Ok… “No we need somebody to look after the kids.” You’re so stupid Allie. “Ok.” Said Prince Peter, sitting down. I got on my horse and rode to town. All the Indians were gone. A lot of people were still hiding. Houses had been burnt down. I rode to my house. It too… had been burnt down. All our precious memories of my mother and father. They were all gone.

The next few days flew by quick. Dozen by dozen people  arrived and found their houses burnt. Some people were lucky enough to have their houses survive. But the markets were burnt. The school was burnt. Everything was burnt. Finally Steve came back with my siblings and we all hugged. Then Steve grabbed his axe and walked into the woods and began chopping down trees. We slept in the barn for five weeks. Steve made the house and painted it. Then he took green shutters and put them on. Then he polished the windows and he began with the furniture. He began with the beds first. He had all five beds done by the end of the fifth week. Then he moved it in and then Chloe began stuffing mattresses and putting them on the beds. She began making pillows and covers. And when she was done she began making curtains. The curtains were lace but we didn’t care. We were just glad we had our house back so far. Steve began making the fireplace and the chimney. His friends helped him with the chimney. It was made of stones and clay. It took sixth weeks to harden. So far it’s passed two months and only a few houses have been restored. The school was being restored too. But when Chloe finished the curtains and had hung them she began making a rug. Then she been gathering clay. We would go down to the creek with buckets and gather clay and then we would sit on the bank and dig out the stones and make pots and cups and bowls and plates. Then we laid the stuff out to dry. That took Hm… about four weeks. Three months have passed now and now we are painting the plates, cups, bowls, and pots. We painted some white and others were left the clay color. Steve had the cupboards by then and now he was making the table and chairs. That took about three weeks for him to finish that. This time I made a table cloth. I made it white. Then Steve made doorways. He made the door also. Then he made a porch. A wonderful porch. We girls did weeks and weeks of sewing, needlepoint, and embroidery. He made a rocking chair and table for the porch and then we painted that white and we were done.

Chapter Five
When all houses and the school and church was restored everybody returned to their normal life positions. The baker went back to baking. The potter when back to making pottery. The sewer went back to sewing and Steve went back to a salesman. Chloe well she got a job. But her job she opened a shop. A shop of sewing and knitting. She began giving classes and raised a lot of money. Way more than Steve ever did. One day in mid April Prince Peter came to visit me. I introduced him to all my friends. Prince Peter stayed in town for a couple of months but then he had to return home.

“Bye Peter.” Said Ethan, Drake, Dylan, and Sam. “Bye guys.” Said Prince Peter. “Bye Peter make sure you return next year.” I said. Prince Peter nodded and said, “Ok.” Then he climbed into his carriage. He waved to everybody and the carriage began going away. I ran after the carriage and came to a hill. I watched him go down the hill towards the kingdom. Where a bright, beautiful, white castle stood.
